At Gaïa Ecolodge, guests enjoy a 3-hectare private pond in the heart of an unspoilt 13-hectare estate in Douville, near Bergerac.
The pond is stocked with carp, roach and black bass. Fishing is strictly No Kill, with no fishing licence required, out of respect for the fish and the tranquillity of the estate.
Chalets, mobile homes and camping pitches let you stay close to the water.
While the anglers settle in on the banks, their companions can enjoy the swimming pool, the relaxation areas and the many activities on offer at Gaïa Ecolodge.
Here, everyone enjoys their holiday at their own pace, between fishing, relaxing and discovering the Dordogne.
A 3-hectare private fishing pond in the Dordogne
Gaïa Ecolodge’s pond covers 3 hectares at the heart of a 13-hectare natural estate. Its banks offer plenty of spots where anglers can set up, close to their accommodation or pitch.
The pond is reserved exclusively for guests staying on the estate. No outside anglers have access. This limited use helps keep the site peaceful and lets you fish in a serene atmosphere.
From early morning, the reflections on the water, the birds and the greenery create a wonderfully relaxing setting. Even when the fish aren’t biting, the pleasure lies in the waiting, the watching and the time spent by the pond.
What fish can you catch in our pond?
Gaïa Ecolodge’s pond is mainly home to several varieties of carp.
A few roach and black bass are also present, but carp remains the pond’s signature fish.
Common carp
Common carp are among the most sought-after catches in the pond. Fishing for them takes patience, observation and a good knowledge of the swims. Beginners and experienced carp anglers alike can try their luck from the banks.
Koi carp
Easily recognised by its colours, the koi carp adds a special touch to the pond’s fish population. Like every fish caught at Gaïa Ecolodge, it must be handled with care and returned to the water quickly.
Grass carp
Grass carp are also found in the pond. This powerful, wary fish can give anglers a real thrill, but every catch is unpredictable and must be returned to the water with the utmost care.
A few roach and black bass
A few roach and black bass also live in the pond. However, there are fewer of them, so we cannot guarantee you’ll catch one. The pond is first and foremost a destination for carp fishing enthusiasts.
What are the fishing rules at the pond?
Fishing is free and reserved for guests staying at Gaïa Ecolodge. As the pond is private, no fishing licence is required. Anglers must, however, bring their own tackle and follow the estate’s rules.
- No Kill fishing is compulsory: every fish must be returned to the water alive after being caught.
- Barbless hooks are compulsory: they make unhooking easier and limit injuries.
- An unhooking mat is compulsory: it protects the fish while it is handled before being released.
- Careful handling: every catch must spend as little time as possible out of the water.
- Fishing from the banks: anglers can set up along the accessible banks. However, the areas in front of the pondside chalets are reserved for their occupants.
- Supervised night fishing: it is only permitted on the side of the pond with no accommodation. Strict silence must be observed so as not to disturb other guests’ sleep.
- Supervision of children: children must always fish under the responsibility of an adult.
- Respect for the estate: everyone must keep the banks clean and help preserve the peace of the site and the pond’s biodiversity.
We’ll go through the rules with you on arrival and are always happy to show you the accessible areas.
